KONERU HUMPY
Koneru Humpy is one of India’s most celebrated chess grandmasters, recognised for her remarkable achievements in both classical and rapid formats. She became the youngest woman ever to achieve the grandmaster title at 15 in 2002 and remains a dominant force in the chess world. Humpy’s career highlights include winning the 2019 World Rapid Chess Championship after a two-year maternity break and earning multiple medals at the World Championship and Olympiads. Her resilience and dedication are evident as she successfully balanced her career with her personal life and motherhood.
In addition to her individual triumphs, Humpy has led India to significant team successes, including gold at the 2020 Online Chess Olympiad and bronze at the 2022 edition. Her ability to bounce back after her maternity leave is further showcased by her silver at the 2022 World Blitz Championship. Outside of chess, she works with ONGC and is a role model for aspiring chess players globally.
